Flaming Lips Alley

A short, deliberately weird pedestrian alley between East Sheridan and the Bricktown Canal, dedicated to Oklahoma City's longest-serving rock band the Flaming Lips. The walls are painted with murals referencing the band's work — the giant smiley face from their album covers, dancing alien suits, a stylised mountain of speakers — and the alley feeds visitors out toward the canal and the rest of Bricktown.

A quick stop on the way to a meal in Bricktown. The alley sometimes hosts impromptu music events; check city listings if you're interested.

A story
Wayne Coyne's band the Flaming Lips formed in Oklahoma City in 1983 and is now one of the city's most recognisable cultural exports, complete with their own street and a star on the Bricktown sidewalk. Coyne still lives in the city and is sometimes seen at local restaurants.
