Darlingtonia State Natural Site

A small preserve about six kilometres north of Florence protecting a bog where cobra lilies (Darlingtonia californica) grow in dense stands. These carnivorous pitcher plants are native only to northern California and southern Oregon, and this is one of the most accessible places to see them. A short boardwalk loops through the bog, which is at its showiest in spring when the plants are actively trapping insects. Admission is free and it takes about fifteen minutes, but it is an unusual stop that most visitors driving US-101 miss entirely.
