Old Town Florence

The original part of Florence lines the north bank of the Siuslaw River, a short stretch of Bay Street with restaurants, galleries, and gift shops in Victorian-era buildings. It is small — you can walk the whole thing in twenty minutes — but it has a genuine waterfront character, with crab pots stacked on the docks and fishing boats moored alongside the pleasure craft. The Siuslaw River Bridge at the east end is an Art Deco concrete arch built in 1936, one of five Oregon coast bridges designed by Conde McCullough in the same decade. It shows up in nearly every photograph of the town.
