Eating Out

Lancaster's food scene punches above its weight for a city of 60,000. The Central Market itself is the obvious lunch stop — sausages, soft pretzels, pickled vegetables, and Pennsylvania Dutch sweets straight from the stalls. Around the market and along Queen Street and Prince Street, a wave of newer restaurants has filled the old commercial buildings.

Expect strong farm-to-table cooking, decent Mexican and Vietnamese places driven by the city's growing immigrant population, and the steady presence of Pennsylvania Dutch staples like shoo-fly pie and chicken pot pie a short drive into the countryside.
