Lititz Watch Technicum

A surprising piece of contemporary architecture on the north edge of Lititz: a sleek, low building designed by Michael Graves to house the only Rolex-affiliated watchmaking school in North America. Graduates qualify as Swiss-trained watchmakers in two years.

The Technicum is a working school, not a museum, and is not generally open to the public — but the building itself is worth driving past for the architecture, and occasional open days do happen. Worth a look for design-minded visitors.

A story
Rolex chose Lititz for its American watchmaking school in 2001 because of the town's century-old watchmaking history — the Hamilton Watch Company across the county once supplied railway timepieces for half of America.
