Lackawanna County Courthouse

The Lackawanna County Courthouse occupies the central square of downtown Scranton — a French Second Empire pile in granite, opened in 1884 and added to ever since. The interior has a four-storey atrium under a stained-glass dome, marble staircases, and elaborate murals depicting the county's industrial history.

The exterior and the surrounding Courthouse Square — with its civil war memorial and the cluster of grand turn-of-the-century buildings — are the most photogenic block in Scranton. The interior is open during working hours on weekdays; visitors are welcome to walk in, though there is a security check at the entrance.
