Scranton Cultural Center

The Scranton Cultural Center is the city's largest theatre, housed in a former Masonic Temple from 1930. The building is a masterpiece of Art Deco architecture, with a striking white limestone facade, ornate plaster ceilings inside, and a 1700-seat auditorium that hosts touring Broadway shows, classical concerts, and the Scranton Philharmonic.

The auditorium is best seen by buying a ticket to a show, but free public tours are sometimes available — check the website. Even from outside the building is worth circling once: it occupies a full block on North Washington Avenue and is the most architecturally ambitious thing in downtown Scranton.
