Arc of Dreams

Soaring steel sculpture spanning the Big Sioux River near Falls Park

A dramatic stainless steel arc spans the Big Sioux River near the entrance to Falls Park, its two sweeping arms reaching toward each other but never quite meeting. The sculpture has become Sioux Falls' most recognisable landmark, visible from the highway and photographed by virtually every visitor.

At 18 metres high and spanning 50 metres across the river, the Arc of Dreams is genuinely impressive in person. It is best viewed at night, when it is illuminated, or in winter, when the quartzite bluffs and bare trees provide a stark backdrop. The sculpture sits within easy walking distance of Falls Park and is freely accessible at all times.

A story
The Arc of Dreams was designed by sculptor Dale Lamphere and installed in 2018. The two halves of the arc — each weighing 25 tonnes — meet in the middle above the river without touching, representing the leap of faith required to pursue a dream. The gap between the two sides is intentional: the dream remains aspirational, never fully closed.
