Lakota dishes including Indian tacos and wojapi berry sauce

Chef Lawrence West serves Lakota food at this popular restaurant on Phillips Avenue — Indian tacos (fry bread topped with meat, beans, cheese, and fresh vegetables), wojapi (a thick berry sauce served over fry bread or ice cream), and other dishes rooted in Northern Plains Native American cooking. The food is genuinely distinctive and unlike anything else in the city.

West started as a food truck and graduated to a brick-and-mortar space on the strength of local word of mouth. The Indian taco is the signature dish, but the buffalo chili and the wojapi berry sauce deserve equal attention. This is one of the most interesting places to eat in South Dakota.
