Robert's Western World

The honky-tonk most musicians and locals will tell you to visit first. Robert's Western World on Lower Broadway started life as a country shirt and boot store in the 1990s; the boots and shirts are still on display, but the floor is now packed for live country and Western swing from 11 a.m. to 3 a.m., seven nights a week. The house band, Brazilbilly, has been performing here for over twenty years.

Robert's still serves its famous Recession Special — a fried bologna sandwich, chips, a Moon Pie and a PBR for around eight dollars. The music is more traditional than the strip-wide standard (real Western swing, Bakersfield country, bluegrass), the crowd is a mix of locals and tourists, and the tip bucket is treated as a serious obligation by anyone who knows what they're listening to.
