The 5 Spot, on Forrest Avenue in East Nashville, is the city's quintessential indie-music dive — a low-ceilinged room with a small stage, a long bar, and a stamped-tin ceiling. It became internationally known as a recurring filming location for the TV show Nashville, but it has been the centre of the East Side music scene for far longer than that.
The Monday night $2 Tuesday (a confusing name; it has always been Monday) is a long-running songwriter showcase featuring Nashville's working musicians — players from major touring bands stopping by for a relaxed night off. Bands span country, garage rock, indie, soul, and Americana. Cover is small, the beer is cheap, the music is consistently good.
