Kanab sits within reach of four major protected areas, all doable as day trips. Zion National Park is about 80 km north-west via US-9 — allow a full day. Bryce Canyon National Park is about 135 km north on US-89 — also a full day. The North Rim of the Grand Canyon is about 130 km south on US-89A and AZ-67, and is the least visited of the four, which is its greatest attraction. Grand Staircase-Escalante is immediately accessible from Kanab — several dirt roads enter the monument from US-89, and the Cottonwood Canyon Road and Skutumpah Road offer spectacular driving on dry days.
