Spring (April–May) and autumn (September–October) are the best times to visit Kanab. Temperatures are mild, the light on the red rock is at its best, and the crowds — while present — have not reached peak summer levels. Wildflowers bloom across the plateau in April and May after a wet winter.
Summer (June–August) is hot — temperatures regularly exceed 38°C — and the slot canyons are at their most dangerous due to the summer monsoon, which can send flash floods through narrow canyons with little warning. The visitor numbers at Zion and Bryce Canyon peak in July and August, and accommodation books out months in advance. The North Rim of the Grand Canyon is open only from mid-May to mid-October. Winter closes many backcountry roads and snow is possible, though the town itself rarely sees significant accumulation.
