Scenic Beach State Park

On the west side of the peninsula, fronting Hood Canal across from the Olympic Mountains, this 88-acre park has one of the best small beaches on the Kitsap waterfront. The shoreline is good for oyster-gathering at low tide (with a state shellfish licence), the lawn above the beach is dotted with mature rhododendrons that bloom in May, and the view across to the Olympics is the standout for which the park is named.

A small campground sits back from the bluff in tall second-growth firs; the day-use picnic area has covered shelters. Allow at least half a day if you intend to walk the shoreline. The drive in via Seabeck is part of the appeal — Old Hood Canal Highway hugs the water for the last few miles.
