Sammamish River Trail

The Sammamish River Trail is the most used recreational corridor in Redmond, popular with cyclists, runners, and walkers year-round. The paved surface is wide enough for both directions of travel without conflict, and the riverside setting — willow trees, waterfowl, and the quiet of the river — feels surprisingly removed from the suburban development on either side.

Bike rentals are available near the Marymoor Park entrance, and the trail is flat enough to be accessible to casual cyclists. The stretch between Marymoor and downtown Redmond is the most scenic, running along open meadows and the river's edge. In summer the river itself is shallow enough for wading in several spots, and great blue herons are a constant presence along the banks.

A story
The Sammamish River Trail runs 10 miles from Marymoor Park in Redmond north to the Bothell Landing park, following the Sammamish River through a mix of farmland, wetland, and suburban development. The trail connects to the Burke-Gilman Trail at its northern end, creating a continuous paved path that ultimately reaches Puget Sound — one of the longest car-free cycling corridors in the Seattle metro area.
