Jerry Baker Memorial Velodrome

The velodrome sits inside Marymoor Park and is run by the Redmond Cycling Club. Racing nights on Fridays draw a mix of seasoned racers and curious spectators who come to watch the fast, tactical sprints and longer tempo events on the banked track. Spectating is free and informal — you sit on the grass bank above the track and the racing happens close enough to hear the wheels spinning.

Beginners are genuinely welcome. The club runs "Learn to Race" programs with loaner bikes and instruction, aimed at people who are comfortable riding but have never raced on a velodrome. The surface is asphalt rather than the indoor wood of Olympic-standard tracks, but the banking and the atmosphere are the real thing. Even if you don't ride, a Friday evening race night is a pleasant and unusual way to spend a few hours.

A story
The Jerry Baker Memorial Velodrome is a 400-metre outdoor track at Marymoor Park, one of only a handful of public velodromes in the Pacific Northwest. It was built in 1975 and is named after a local cycling champion who died in 1983. The track hosts weekly races during the summer season and runs beginner programs that have introduced track cycling to thousands of riders who had never tried the sport.
