Fox Theater

The Fox Theater is Spokane's finest piece of Art Deco architecture, a 1931 movie palace on Sprague Avenue with an elaborate terra cotta exterior in cream and gold. Inside, the restored auditorium has its original atmospheric ceiling, ornate plasterwork, and excellent acoustics. It is now a performing arts venue and home of the Spokane Symphony.

Even if you don't catch a performance, the building itself is worth stopping to look at. The Fox is the best example of the ambition Spokane had in the interwar years, when it was a genuine regional center and not yet overshadowed by Seattle. Check the box office for what's on during your visit.

A story
The Fox opened in 1931 at the height of Art Deco design, with a terra cotta facade and an auditorium that seated over 2,000 people. It survived the Depression, postwar suburbanization, and decades of neglect before a major renovation in the 1990s restored it to operation. It is now home to the Spokane Symphony and hosts touring performers year-round.
