Wenatchee sits where the Wenatchee River meets the Columbia, on the sunny side of the Cascades. It calls itself the Apple Capital of the World, and the orchards are not just branding: fruit stands, packing houses, and dry hills around town shape the place.
The city is a good base for a spare day in central Washington because the outdoors begin right at the edge of town. Saddle Rock Trails climb into open basalt hills above the valley, the Apple Capital Loop follows the Columbia waterfront, and Ohme Gardens turns a rocky bluff into a shaded garden of paths and viewpoints.
Wenatchee also has enough indoor context to make the landscape more than a backdrop. The Wenatchee Valley Museum explains the apple industry and local history, while Rocky Reach Dam shows the Columbia as working river and salmon corridor.
