Basilica of St. Josaphat

The Basilica of St. Josaphat is one of Milwaukee's great architectural landmarks, built by the city's Polish Catholic community using materials salvaged from the old Chicago Custom House and Post Office. Stone blocks, bronze railings, light fixtures, and other fittings were measured, moved, and reused in the new church.

Inside, the scale and ornament put it among the strongest examples of the Polish Cathedral style in North America. It is worth a deliberate detour for the dome, murals, and the story of how the building was assembled.
