Day Trips

Glendo State Park, 20 miles southeast of Douglas on Wyoming Highway 319, offers the most straightforward day trip from town. The park surrounds the Glendo Reservoir on the North Platte River, with 12,000 acres of water, six boat ramps, a marina, over 500 campsites across 19 campgrounds, and one of the best walleye fisheries in Wyoming. Sandy Beach has 1.5 miles of shoreline for swimming. The park also has 45 miles of mountain biking trails.

Casper is 60 miles north on I-25 and large enough to offer services and attractions that Douglas lacks — better restaurants, a regional airport, and the National Historic Trails Interpretive Center covering the Oregon, California, Mormon Pioneer, and Pony Express trails that all passed through this part of Wyoming.
