Jenne Block

The Jenne Block is a two-story brick commercial building in downtown Douglas that exemplifies the confident architecture of Wyoming's early boomtown era. Built in the early twentieth century, it represents the kind of substantial investment that local businessmen made once the railroads arrived and Douglas began to look like it would last. The building's solid brick construction and commercial ground-floor plan were the standard template for prosperity on the high plains.

The block is listed on the National Register of Historic Places and forms part of the broader collection of late nineteenth and early twentieth century commercial architecture that makes Douglas's downtown worth a slow walk. The town grew up fast between 1886 and 1920, and enough of what was built in that period has survived to give the streets a coherent character. Together with the Hotel LaBonte and the College Inn Bar, the Jenne Block anchors the historic core.
