St. Croix is served by Henry E. Rohlsen Airport (STX), located in the southwest of the island near Frederiksted. American Airlines operates direct flights from Miami and Charlotte; United flies from Newark. Cape Air connects STX to St. Thomas for island-hopping, though the 20-minute flight is considerably faster than taking the ferry to St. Thomas and then another connection.
There is no direct ferry between St. Croix and St. Thomas or St. John — the roughly 40 miles of open water separating St. Croix from the other Virgin Islands means that inter-island travel by sea takes most of the day and involves changing boats in St. Thomas.
