Getting around Mendoza city is straightforward; reaching the wine regions requires a bit more planning.
In the city: Taxis and remis (private car services) are inexpensive and widely available. The city centre is compact enough to walk between the main plazas, and Parque San Martín is manageable on foot. Ride-hailing apps work in Mendoza and are useful for avoiding negotiation on fares.
To Maipú: Local buses (the 173 from the central terminal) run to the village of Maipú in about 20-30 minutes. From there, bicycle rental is the standard mode of transport between bodegas. Several shops near the bus stop rent bikes by the day with suggested routes.
To Luján de Cuyo: Remis or tour vehicle from Mendoza city; around 30-40 minutes. Organised tours picking up from hotels are common and reasonably priced. Some bodegas arrange their own transport for groups.
To the Uco Valley: Requires a car or organised tour — about 90 minutes to 2 hours from the city. Several tour operators in Mendoza offer full-day wine tours to the valley, including transport, bodega visits, and lunch.
To Aconcagua / the mountains: Bus to Uspallata (around 2 hours) runs several times daily, with some services continuing to the Chilean border. Specialist mountain agencies in Mendoza organise transport for climbers and trekkers.
