Güirá Oga

Wildlife rehabilitation centre for injured Misiones forest animals

Address Ruta 12 km 5, Puerto Iguazú

Güirá Oga — Guaraní for "house of birds" — is a wildlife rehabilitation centre on a 25-hectare plot of forest just outside Puerto Iguazú. It takes in injured and confiscated animals from the Misiones region, treats them, and returns to the wild whichever can survive. Those that can't — usually birds with permanent wing injuries, or mammals raised in captivity — stay on as residents.

A guided walk through the enclosures introduces you to harpy eagles, toucans, ocelots, brocket deer, capuchin monkeys and tapirs. The guides are biologists and the tour is genuinely informative — you come away with a sharper sense of what lives in the surrounding forest than any number of trips into the park itself will give you.
