Parque Urquiza

The city's great park, sloping from the upper town down to the river — sixty hectares of lawns, paths, ravines, and old trees, designed by the French landscape architect Charles Thays. A bandstand sits at the centre, a monument to Justo José de Urquiza (the city's founder-figure, after whom the park is named) at one end, and a long balustraded miradouro at the other, looking out over the river.

Sundays bring families with mate and pastries, joggers in the cool of the morning, kite-flyers when there is wind. The amphitheatre at the lower end of the park hosts concerts on summer weekends.
