Passarela do Álcool

The waterfront promenade between the historic centre and the river mouth, lined for several hundred metres with bars, restaurants, craft stalls, and cachaça vendors. By day it is a quiet seafront walk; by night, in season, it is the loudest single block in the south of Bahia. Live bands play on raised stages, capoeira circles form on the pavement, and the cachaça stalls hand out free shots in coloured plastic cups.

The energy is what people come to Porto Seguro for. It is not subtle and not for everyone — the volume is high, the drinks are sweet, the prices climb in peak season. But for a single noisy night out it delivers exactly what it promises. Most bars don't fill until after 10pm; the strip thins out around 2am.

A story
The pedestrian boulevard takes its name from the dozens of cachaça stalls that line both sides at night, each one mixing flavoured *cachaças* — passion fruit, ginger, cinnamon, kiwi — in plastic cups and competing for customers with free tasting samples.
