Niterói's main draw is the Caminho Niemeyer waterfront and the unmistakable MAC museum, but the city also has colonial-era fortresses, scenic hiking trails in the Serra da Tiririca state park, and the Archaeological Museum of Itaipu set among prehistoric shell mounds. Most visitors combine the museum with a day at the oceanic beaches.
