Beaches

Laguna has twelve beaches along its coastline, ranging from calm lagoon shores to powerful Atlantic surf. The most accessible from the historic centre is Praia do Mar Grosso, a 3 km stretch of Atlantic-facing beach with bars, restaurants, and calmer conditions at the southern end. Praia do Gi, reached by a short ferry crossing across the lagoon, is quieter and good for families.

Further north, Praia de Garopaba do Sul and Praia da Cigana offer more seclusion but require transport to reach. The most dramatic beach in the area is Praia do Farol, at the foot of the Santa Marta lighthouse headland — a wild, unpatrolled stretch with heavy surf and no facilities. Laguna's southern beaches face the open Atlantic and can have strong currents; always check local advice before swimming.
