Laguna is at its liveliest during Carnival in February, when the street carnival is one of the biggest events in southern Brazil. Accommodation books out weeks in advance; prices spike accordingly. The cooperative dolphin fishing season runs from April to July, when mullet schools move through the lagoon — May and June are peak season for sightings.
The southern Brazilian summer (December to February) brings warm temperatures and crowds from Florianópolis and beyond. Outside the school holidays the beaches are much quieter. Winter (June to August) is mild by European standards but cooler and wetter, and the historic centre is at its most atmospheric without the summer crowds.
