Fonte Velha

The Fonte Velha — the "Old Fountain" — is a small 18th-century stone wellhead set into a quiet square a couple of blocks back from the waterfront. For more than two centuries it was the source of fresh water for Paranaguá's inhabitants, the place where slaves and servants queued each morning with clay jars. The square around it is shaded and pleasant; nothing else announces it, but pausing here is the simplest way to slow down to the city's pace.
