The obvious day trip from Viña is its neighbour Valparaíso, twenty minutes south by metro. The two cities are so close that most people stay in one and visit the other on a half-day. Valpo's tangle of painted hills, ascensores, and bohemian quarters makes the perfect counterpoint to Viña's manicured order.
Further afield, the Casablanca Valley wineries are an easy half-day inland — most cellars are signposted off Route 68 and several offer tastings without an appointment. The fishing village of Horcón and the long beach at Maitencillo, both about an hour's drive north, are popular weekend escapes for people in Viña.
