The Palacio Vergara is an extravagant Italianate mansion completed in 1908 for the Vergara family. The architect borrowed freely from Florentine Renaissance models — tall round-arched windows, a deep rusticated base, painted ceilings — and the result is one of the more flamboyant pieces of architecture on the Chilean coast.
The palace is now the Museo de Bellas Artes, with a small but interesting collection of Chilean and European painting and sculpture. It was badly damaged in the 2010 earthquake and again in 2017; restoration work is ongoing, and you should check current opening hours before going.
