Cristo Rey

Giant Christ statue with sweeping Cauca Valley views

A 26-metre statue of Christ, arms outstretched, perched on the Cerro de los Cristales 1,400 metres above the city. Inaugurated in 1953 and unmistakably modelled on Rio's Cristo Redentor, it is reached by a winding road through the western hills. The real reason to come is the view: on a clear morning the whole Cauca Valley spreads out below, with the snow-capped Central Cordillera in the distance.
