Plaza de Nariño

The main square of Pasto, named for the Pastuso-born revolutionary Antonio Nariño who translated the Declaration of the Rights of Man into Spanish in 1794. The plaza is small, tree-shaded, and lined with the cathedral, the Casa de Nariño (departmental government), and several arcaded colonial houses.

Always busy, with shoe-shiners, ice-cream sellers, and university students killing time between classes. The Christmas tree and Carnival decorations transform the square in late December and early January.
