Templo de San Felipe Neri is one of Pasto's better-loved churches, known locally as Jesús del Río for the image of Christ carrying the cross that is venerated inside. It is a good stop if you are tracing Pasto's religious architecture rather than only using the city as a base for Laguna de la Cocha or Carnaval.
The church rewards a quiet look at the interior and its devotional art. It is not as nationally famous as Colombia's great colonial churches, but it belongs firmly to Pasto's own identity: Catholic, highland, and visually richer than many travellers expect on a quick pass through town.
