La Piscina

La Piscina ("The Pool") is the most popular swimming beach in Tayrona, and its name captures exactly what it feels like: a sheltered lagoon of unusually calm, clear water protected from the open sea by a reef and a cluster of large boulders. The water is chest-deep in most places and the sand is white. It's the only beach in the park where swimming is reliably safe.

The snorkelling around the boulders is good — reef fish, small sharks, and occasional turtles use the rocks as habitat. La Piscina sits between Playa Arrecifes and Cabo San Juan on the main park trail, about 30 minutes' walk from each. In peak season it gets crowded, with vendors selling cold drinks and fruit in the shade. The boulders provide shade and good picnic spots. A basic food stall operates nearby.
