1914 Battle Memorial

The 1914 Battle Memorial commemorates the World War I naval battle off the Falklands, when a British squadron sank four German cruisers. The memorial was erected in 1927 and remains one of Stanley's main war memorials.

A ceremony is held here each year on 8 December. Even outside that date, the site gives useful context for the islands' strategic place in South Atlantic history.
