Falkland Islands Museum and National Trust

Maritime, natural and 1982 war history of the islands

Address Holdfast Road, Stanley, Falkland Islands

The islands' main museum, located in the historic dockyard at the western end of Stanley waterfront. The collections cover everything from natural history (penguins, seabirds, the marine environment) and the islands' early settlement to the South Atlantic whaling industry and a substantial gallery on the 1982 Falklands War, with personal accounts from both sides.

The museum is housed across several buildings, including a restored 19th-century cottage and the dockyard's old smithy. Allow two to three hours; tickets are reasonably priced and include access to all the buildings. The shop is the best place in Stanley for books on the islands.
