Laguna Paron is the largest lake in the Cordillera Blanca, a blue-green basin backed by sharp snow peaks, including Artesonraju. It sits high above Caraz at about 4,200 metres, and the view from the lakeshore is one of the easiest big mountain payoffs in the Huaraz region.
Most visitors come by taxi from Caraz or on a day tour from Huaraz. Fit cyclists sometimes arrange a one-way lift up and ride back down, but the altitude and rough road make that a real outing rather than a casual spin.
