Huaca El Dragon

A Chimu adobe temple near Trujillo, known for relief decoration and links to the Chan Chan world.

Huaca El Dragon, also called Huaca Arco Iris, is one of the easier Chimu archaeological sites to visit around Trujillo. Its adobe walls and relief decoration give a more intimate view of north-coast pre-Inca culture than the vastness of Chan Chan alone.

The site is best understood as part of the wider Chan Chan landscape. Visit with sun protection and a guide or good notes if possible, because the meaning of the reliefs and sacred architecture is not obvious at first glance.
