The Estadio Alfonso Chico Carrasquel is the home ground of the Caribes de Anzoátegui, one of the eight teams in Venezuela's professional winter baseball league (LVBP). Baseball is by far the most popular sport in eastern Venezuela; a Caribes game in season (October to January) is loud, partisan, and a fixture of local life.
The stadium is named for Chico Carrasquel, the Venezuelan shortstop who became the first Latin American player to start an MLB All-Star Game in 1951. Tickets are affordable; arrive early for cheap food at the stalls outside.
