Santa Fé

Santa Fé is a small coastal village an hour east of Puerto la Cruz, partway along the road to Cumaná. It is quieter than Puerto la Cruz, with a couple of posadas, a small market, and a beach where lanchas leave for the islands of Mochima — Playa Colorada and Isla Caracas are the usual destinations.

The village suffered a long decline through the years of Venezuela's economic crisis, and infrastructure is thin. It is recommended principally for budget travellers wanting a base outside the city, who can put up with simple services in exchange for cheaper rooms and easier access to the water.
