Oran's food culture is part Maghrebi, part Mediterranean. Karantika — a thick chickpea flan with cumin and harissa — is the city's signature street food, sold from carts and small counters around the centre. The Front de Mer corniche has a long string of cafés and seafood restaurants with views of the bay; the Miramar district at the western end is the upmarket option. Mint tea and an evening ice cream by the sea is a local ritual.
