Oran has a tram system — the Tramway d'Oran — that opened in 2013 and covers the main east-west axis of the city, linking the train station at Gambetta through the city centre to Es-Sénia in the south. It is clean, cheap, and reliable, and the best way to move along the central corridor.
Taxis are plentiful and cheap by European standards; always agree on a price before getting in, or ask the driver to use the meter. Minibuses (microbus) cover most of the city and the western suburbs, including the road to Mers-el-Kébir. For the beaches at Les Andalouses and Cap Falcon, a taxi is the practical option as public transport is limited outside summer.
