Four Corners (Kazungula)

The Four Corners monument at Kazungula, 8km east of Kasane, marks the approximate point where the borders of Botswana, Namibia, Zambia, and Zimbabwe converge. Four flags, a stone marker, and a viewing platform over the Zambezi make this a popular photo stop on the circuit between Chobe and Victoria Falls. On a clear day, you can see Zimbabwe's banks to the east, Zambia's to the north, and the Namibian Caprivi Strip to the west.

The Kazungula Bridge, opened in 2021, crosses the Zambezi here and has replaced the old Kazungula Ferry — a vehicle barge crossing that was famously chaotic, with queues of trucks waiting days to cross. The bridge has dramatically improved cross-border transport and reduced journey times between Botswana and Zambia from hours (or days) to minutes.

The Four Corners area is also the entry point to the Kazungula sector of Chobe National Park, which covers the floodplain east of Kasane. Animals regularly cross the river here between Zimbabwe, Zambia, and Botswana, and the area around the bridge and the old ferry crossing can be excellent for wildlife viewing.

A story
The "Four Corners" where Botswana, Namibia, Zambia, and Zimbabwe supposedly meet is a popular tourist stop, but the geometry is slightly misleading — Botswana and Zambia share a short stretch of the Zambezi River as their border, meaning the four countries technically don't all meet at a single point. The actual quadripoint, or as close as the cartographers can get, is in the middle of the Zambezi, technically the work of colonial boundary drawers in the 1890s who were trying to prevent Germany (controlling South-West Africa/Namibia) from gaining access to the Zambezi.
