The Avenue Kwame Nkrumah is the principal restaurant and bar street of central Ouaga — a tree-lined boulevard running south from the Place des Nations Unies, with most of the city's better restaurants, ice-cream parlours, supermarkets and embassies along its length.
The avenue was the scene of two large jihadist attacks in 2016 and 2017, which killed dozens of patrons in cafés and restaurants. Security here is now tight, and most of the establishments have armed guards at the door. The atmosphere is still cheerful in the evenings, but security advisories are worth checking.
