A 240-hectare patch of dryland forest on the northern edge of the city, the Parc Urbain Bangr-Weoogo is the green lung of Ouagadougou. The name means "forest of knowledge" in Mooré, and the park was a sacred grove of the Mossi long before it was formalised as an urban reserve.
Paths wind through baobabs, acacias, and the occasional small pond. You may spot warthogs, mongooses, monkeys, and a long list of birds. It is at its best in the early morning and the last hour of the day; the middle of the day is unbearably hot from March to June.
