Bafoussam's most important day trip is to Foumban, 70 kilometres to the east — the royal capital of the Bamoun kingdom, with a sultan's palace and an artisan quarter that are in a different cultural league from anything in Bafoussam itself. The road is paved and well-maintained; shared taxis run the route in 90 minutes. A full day is needed to do it justice.
Chefferie Bandjoun, 20 kilometres south, is also worthwhile and often treated as a half-day excursion from Bafoussam — the finest surviving Bamiléké royal compound in the region, covered under Things to Do.
