Moto-taxis are the default transport for most journeys within Bafoussam — they are cheap (100–200 FCFA for short trips within the centre), fast through traffic, and ubiquitous. Negotiate the fare before you get on; most drivers quote a reasonable price but will try higher with unfamiliar visitors. Always wear a helmet if one is offered.
Shared taxis (yellow Toyotas) run fixed routes across the city for 150–200 FCFA and are the sensible alternative for longer cross-city trips or when you have luggage. They depart when full from the central gare routière and from Rond Point Biao.
Walking works well in the compact central area between Marché A, the chefferie, and the mosque — distances are short enough and the streets interesting enough to make it worth the effort. Outside the centre, the city sprawls considerably and distances become impractical on foot.
For trips to the surrounding chiefdoms and Lac Baleng, moto-taxis are again the standard option. Agree the price for a round trip with waiting time included; a driver who knows the area well is worth paying a small premium. For Chefferie Bandjoun (20 km south), shared bush taxis from the gare routière are the most cost-effective option.
