Marché B

Marché B is Bafoussam's secondary market and considerably less visited by travellers than the larger Marché A a few hundred metres to the west. That is partly its appeal — the mix of secondhand clothing, hardware, and everyday household goods here is aimed squarely at local buyers, and the prices reflect it. This is where you find secondhand European and American clothing arriving through the West African ports, sold in bulk bales and then by the piece at prices that make Western charity shops look expensive.

The produce section at Marché B runs alongside the main covered hall and is particularly good for the root vegetables, leafy greens, and plantains that come down from the surrounding farms. The market is busiest on Monday and Friday mornings. It is a natural companion to a visit to Marché A and the two together cover most of what you would want to see of commercial Bafoussam in a single morning.
